The World Consumer Rights Day was observed on the 19th of March 2009 at Jowai, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. The day being a big market day : was deemed fit to hold the occasion as it drew more people young & old alike. 

The occasion was chaired by Shri. Sanjay Goyal, IAS , Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya who made efforts to put forth his views to the local public on the Rights of a Consumer & by speaking a few lines in the Local Language he won the hearts of many present. Others who were present were the Magistrates, Officers and Staffs of the DC Office Jowai & other District Offices concerned. School Children too from various schools in the district performed short dramas to help educate and spread the rights of a consumer at large. The Art & Culture Office also performed a drama towards the same aim of educating the public. The entire program won the appreciation of many at the scene.

Distribution of pamphlets and leaflets to the public took main stage. The program on the whole was a Success.
