Since its inception in Jowai, the National Informatics Center( NIC) has rendered enormous services to the State Government offices at the district.

Projects undertaken by NIC are truly supportive of the system of the organization to which the projects belong to and inspite of many technical drawbacks :much of the work is always completed successfully.

DISTRICT LIBRARY COMPUTERIZATION

Computerizing the District Library - Hardware procurement/installation and software development- has been done  to create a modern digital library system, that would render better services to the readers and students alike. It was also to help give prompt responses to queries raised by Users from time to time, making the library available to all.

The Library Books are also being catalogued using the software created by NIC. 

The staffs of the District Library have also been  provided with training on the use of computers.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION CENTERS

The CIC centers : four in number, have been established in all the four Block of Jaintia Hills District viz. Amlarem, Laskein, Khliehriat, Thadlaskein.Two Qualified operators manage the CIC’s.

Every CIC has been well equipped with Computers, VSAT, TV, printers, U.P.S, generator,etc. 

 CIC’s have been imparting IT training programs to the school students, staff of the Block Development Offices and the local people. CIC’S have elicited an enthusiastic response from the people, especially youngsters as it is the main medium of communication for the people in the far flung and remote areas in the state. Many E- Governance packages like Comprehensive Household Surveys, MPLADS, MLA Schemes, Payroll, Personnel Management Information Systems, Village Directory, Rural Soft, Rural Bazar, BPL census etc. have been installed and worked upon by the CIC centers.

TRAINING

NIC, Jaintia Hills District conducts training for the officers and staff of the State Government when the need arises.

As of now a mass training is in progress covering all departments of the district administration.

TREASURY COMPUTERIZATION

Hardware procurement/installation and software development has been done. Training was also conducted for the Staff on handling and usage of the software application.

Software was developed using, MS-Access for randomization of the polling personnel and the polling stations for the Assembly Election 2003. Reports were generated for printing randomized list of polling personnel and appointment letters for polling station of 7 constituencies under the district. Guiding the operator/staff of DC election in the data entry and printing of the reports at the NIC.

Besides the above, mass training sessions were conducted by NIC-Jowai unit on the usage of the ballot Units to all the Staffs and officers under the district administration.

Instant reporting of flash statistic during the counting day was also done using the internet facility- this being a joint venture of Doordarshan and the NIC Organization.

NIC at the district level has always provided technical support for conducting Parliamentary, Legislative Assembly and District Council elections of the State. Software application has been developed for pre-poll activities like polling party formation, counting party formation, area and zonal magistrate level charts etc. and post poll activities like computerization of counting process, result processing, generation of results, etc.

COMPREHENSIVE HOUSEHOLD SURVEY

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics is conducting the Comprehensive Household Survey in Meghalaya with a view to build a Statewide database relating to information about every individual and his Household background. The household data collected by this survey include ownership, number of household members, type of house, availability of basic amenities like water, electric power supply and sanitation facilities as well as possession of luxury items like telephone, TV, VCR, refrigerator, car and scooter. In addition to the household data, information is also collected about each and every household member like Sex, Age, Educational background, profession, community and religion. This survey gives a clear cut picture of the social and economics condition of the people of Meghalaya both in the urban as well as in the rural areas which in turn when analyze can be provided to the decision maker for planning purposes.

Data entry for the above survey is done regularly in NIC Jowai.

BPL Census

Installation of software done, work of assisting the staffs of the Block Offices  done from time to time , via the CIC operators.

The entry is completed.

PLANNING DEPT. ANNUAL REPORT 

Assistance given to the staffs in the compilation of the Annual report. Computers provided at NIC unit for the same purpose.

           Revenue Dept.

Computerizing of reports, entry works assistance, training too imparted for the same purpose.

AGMARK: District Horticulture Office

Organized a one day Seminar-cum-Workshop on the AGMARK software and the AGMARKNET portal developed by NIC in joint venture with DMI-New Delhi.

Same training was imparted to staff and officer of DHO office, Jowai for the weekly market entry using the software, generation of a weekly report that is send to Delhi for uploading in the website using the internet facility of NIC.

Technical support & training imparted as need arises.

JNV School

Computerizing the JNV School - Hardware procurement/installation- to Tender calling was done by NIC-Jowai.

NIC assisted in conducting a walk-in-interview for selection of a Computer teacher for the school.

Technical support, training imparted. 

Assistance given in checking of results via the internet as need arises.

3rd IRRIGATION Census

Computerization of the Irrigation work for the 3rd Irrigation Census. Assistance and training imparted to staffs and officer of the dept. for the entry work using the NIC made software. Work of backup also taken for the same. 

Technical support given from time to time.

7th All India Educational Survey :NCERT

Computerization of the School List data corresponding to the villages of the entire district completed for further survey works by the NCERT Committee for the 7th All India Educational Survey.

Work of updating the Website- that keeps track of the survey progress- is completed.

DRDA Computerization

Computerizing the DRDA dept. - Hardware procurement/installation-done.

Training & technical support imparted from time to time.

Transport Computerization

Transport office computerization in progress. Site yet to be made ready for the same, this being their new office site.

General Dept.

Computerizing of the SC/ST certificates. Training of staff on the same from time to time.

District Selection Committee

Computerizing of candidate lists for MCS exams, result generation. Training to staff on same.

PWD

Computerizing of the entry of daily progress of the PMGSY Road making of this dept.

Assistance given for various technical problems arising from time to time.

PHE Office

Training imparted to staffs and officer for normal working on a computer system. Computerizing the diagrams to be used at various sites for construction purposes.

As of now taking up the project of " habitation survey". 

Website updation

District website updation from time to time. In the making is the new updated website of the district, inclusive of CIC web-link.

Misc. Activities

Training, Mail compiling/sending/receiving, technical support, advice on procuring Computer systems, advice to students on study courses, checking of results (cbse, state, admissions, jobs, upsc..),general print and entry works, internet usage facility to all office depts. of the District.
